Passion
“Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder? His majestic snorting strikes terror. He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength. He gallops into the clash of arms. He mocks at fear and is not frightened. He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; At the sound of the trumpet he says, Aha! He smells the battle from afar, the thunder of captains and shouting. These are excerpts from the 39th chapter in Job the Lord describing horses in battle. I was struck by the passionate way God describes the horse. You could have used many other examples of Gods passion for His creation from all through the bible. We make a grave error when we solely focus or emphasize on what’s happening in our minds to the exclusion of emotion. God in the book of Samuel said He was looking for a faithful priest who would do all that was in His heart and mind. God is extremely passionate. He is in love with what He has created. To be balanced we need to be both diligent with our thoughts etc and at the same time have a zest or passion for life.
As I read these scriptures this week the Lord talked to me about an area I was being obedient in and having faith for but He said, “not enough” be passionate about it. More accurately let His passion in me come to the surface. Historically the church has at times been scared of emotion and tried to keep things seemly and in order saying emotion was soulish therefore bad. But God is emotional, passionate our souls are meant to respond to Him intellectually and emotionally. God knows how to live, do we? God works out His plans with His heart and His mind. His is the great heart behind it all.
